Ex - "The Shadows" bass-guitar and A-ha producer was born in Cumberland (UK). His family emigrated to Adelaide (Australia) where Alan spent his teens. Improving his musical skills in guitar, bass and keyboards young musician joined a local band "The Handels" where he met Trevor Spencer.

Alan and Trevor came to England in 1969 where they met Cliff Richard's producers and managers and formed the "Tarney - Spencer band". Meanwhile they were also doing tons of session work for Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer, Bonnie Tyler and other artists.*

Besides abovementioned stars Tarney wrote and produced songs for Tom Jones, David Cassidy, Olivia Newton-Jones and other world famous singers. 

In 1989 Alan wrote and produced Thomas' hit-single "Soldier" and two more songs for the album "Different" ("Someone New" and "Living On The Edge"
