In summer of 1984 the record-company asked Thomas Anders if he could try to sing on English in order to gain much international success. Under the name HEADLINER he recorded the cover of REAL LIFE's hit: "Catch Me I'm Falling". The idea was to create a kind of WHAM! in Germany, so the record-company was looking for someone else to make a duet. Originally it wasn't planned that Dieter Bohlen would become a part of that duet; he was supposed to write and produce songs only.

In autumn of 1984 Dieter Bohlen came up with a new title for the project and wrote a song on English "You're My Heart, You're My Soul". Thus, MODERN TALKING was born. Their first single climbed up to the top of charts across the whole Europe within 6 weeks. When the project suddenly and unexpectedly gained such a success, Bohlen joined the duet. A string of No.1-hits, such as: "You Can Win If You Want", "Cheri Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie" (number 4 in UK-Charts) and "Atlantis Is Calling", followed very soon. A short time later MODERN TALKING became the most successful German pop-duo. They created the most remarkable and popular dance sound of the 80’s and sold 7 Double Platinum albums, 11 Platinum albums and 4 Gold albums worldwide.

Первый сингл тут же взлетел на верхушки хит-парадов всей Европы и продержался там шесть недель. Болен присоединился к дуэту сразу же, как только к проекту пришел неожиданный и совершенно непредвиденный успех. Вслед за этим родилась целая серия хитов номер один – "You Can Win If You Want", "Cheri Cheri Lady", "Brother Louie" (занявший 4-е место в британских чартах), и "Atlantis Is Calling". Таким образом, вскоре "Модерн Токинг" стал самым популярным немецким дуэтом всех времен и народов. Именно эта группа создала неповторимое и узнаваемое звучание 80-х, продав по всему миру 7 двойных платиновых дисков, 11 платиновых и 4 золотых.
